Jags are out to prove a point at Cove

THE WEATHER may have disappointed Strathspey Thistle on Saturday as

their home game with Formartine United was frozen out, but the Jags are raring to go to Cove Rangers this weekend in high spirits.

Saturday’s call off meant that Brian Ritchie’s men were unable to immediately attempt to build upon their impressive showing at Forres Mechanics, where they pushed the league leaders and odds-on title favourites all the way in their 2-1 defeat.

However, after a couple of lively training sessions, Ritchie insists that the mood in the camp is buoyant ahead of this weekend’s trip to the side currently placed second in the table.

Ritchie said: “We are looking for the same again from the guys.

“To be fair to them, they maybe have a bit of a point to prove that the Forres game wasn’t a fluke.

“They are under a wee bit of pressure to go out and do the same again because Cove are up there challenging and are a good, strong team.

“Our boys have got to take confidence from what they did at Forres though and can, hopefully, put on a similar sort of display.

“There has been a good camaraderie among the boys at training this week. The levels have been fantastic.

“There has been plenty of banter and good turnouts and although we are down the bottom and not getting anywhere, the games cannot come quick enough.”

Ritchie slammed his side for a lack of commitment the last time they travelled to Cove when the club could muster a matchday squad of only 12 players.

However, the Jags boss insists that attitudes have changed for the better at Seafield Park ahead of this latest trip to Aberdeen.

He added: “Down there last season, we went with only 12 players and that was just asking for trouble.

“This year, I have a real problem, because I am working with a squad of 20 guys and I can only name 16 on a Saturday.”
