THE final of Kingussie Tennis Club's mixed doubles competition took place between two couples who are no strangers when it comes to competing for the title.

Grant Davis and Deb Tait were defending their crown against Marjorie and Kenny Deans last Monday night.

And it proved to be a very hard-fought battle with the latter emerging winners by 4-6, 7-6, 7-6. The Deans had come down from 4-1 in the second to take the tie-break. A few hardy members came along to support the finalists.

The evening was cool with the threat of a light shower but the rain stayed off long enough for the match to be completed.

Tennis club secretary Moira Webster said: "This was one of the closest mixed doubles finals that the club has had for a long time with many closely fought rallies.

"With daylight fading fast, Kenny and Marjorie, in the second tie-break of the match, took the title. Well done to both couples for a very entertaining match."

The prizes were presented to Kenny and Marjorie Deans by the club treasurer Helen Peebles. The match had been held over from the club's finals day as both Davies and Marjorie Deans were in their respective singles final.

Kingussie Tennis Club's next event is the end of season tournament on September 29.
