ahead of her, during which time she will be competing in some of Britain’s leading junior and ladies’ championships.

She has just found out that she has been selected to play in the Scottish girls U18 team for the Home Internationals, which will be held at Gullane number two course in the first week of August.

McCook also played in the round robin event last year when Scotland were runners-up to England.

“This year we want to go one better,” said the Nethy Bridge youngster.

McCook, who has just finished Grantown Grammar School, has recently returned from representing Scotland in the European Girls’ Team Championships, which were played at Is Molas in Sardinia.

She said: “Sadly, we did not perform our best. We all tried our best although the temperature was in the high 30s. As a team we finished in 16th place.

“I, unfortunately, lost both my singles matches against players from Norway and Turkey, however, against Austria I was part of a foursomes pairing, and we won 7 and 5.

“In my match against the Turkish player I was five down after 10 holes, however, I pulled it back to me being one up after 16, and then we played on until the 19th but lost.”

Last week, McCook was playing at Glenisla in Perthshire in the U18 Scottish Girls Amateur Championship.

She qualfied through to the matchplay stages in sixth position out of 32, but was beaten in the second round having progressed from the opening round by winning on the 21st hole with a par three.

Upcoming competitions include playing at Cardross, near Glasgow, in the Scottish U21 Championships, competing at Gullane No.1 in the British Girls’ Amateur Championship, and in the Ladies’ British Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Royal Ashdown Forest, South of London.
