Glenmore 24 proves a gruelling test

ENDURANCE athletes produced some incredible displays at the first Glenmore 24 Trail ultra distance running race at the weekend.

From the minute the clock starts, competitors have 12 or 24 hours to see how many laps of the 4 mile circuit they can complete.

Jeroen Renes, who ran 124 miles in 23:39:35, won the 24 hour race for men, with Ross Moreland, who ran116 miles in 23:34:11, in second, and Alan Crawford, who ran 104 miles in 24:30:57, finishing third.

The 24 Hour Race for women was won by Mimi Anderson, who completed 112 miles in 23hours, 22minutes & 35 seconds. Fiona Rennie was second, completing 108 miles in 23:46:39, while third was Carrie Craig, who ran 104 miles in 23:50:03.

Antonia Johnson, who ran 72 miles in 12 hours 39 minutes and 23 seconds, won the 12 hour race, with Jamie Aarons who covered 68 miles in a time of 12:17:59, finishing second and Helen Buxton, who ran 60 miles in 13:03:34, finishing third.

A spokesman for the organisers, writing on the race website, said: "Thanks very much to all the runners, support crews & helpers who helped make this weekend’s first Glenmore 24 exactly the sort of race we wanted to put on for you.

"Everyone we saw had always had a smile on their face and a kind word for the marshals which was much appreciated. You all dealt with the unique Scottish weather and wildlife admirably! It was great to be able to speak with each & every runner over the course of the weekend whether at the start area, the checkpoint or out on the course itself.

"Congratulations to you all as there were amazing performances and some incredible distances logged, not to mention all of the individual personal challenges that were met."
