Former Forres Mechanics hero Charlie Brown masterminds a Strathspey Thistle Highland League win over his former club
STRATHSPEY Thistle confirmed their safety from Highland League relegation with a 3-1 win over Forres Mechanics on Wednesday night.
Jags boss Charlie Brown got one over his former club Forres, where he was a goalscoring legend and coached before joining the Grantown club last summer.
Mechanics were hoping to build on Saturday's victory over Huntly but fell behind in the early minutes to a goal by Elgin City loan teenager Dylan Lawrence - his fourth goal for Jags.
James McShane chipped in with his seventh goal of the season to make it 2-0 inside the opening quarter of the game.
Forres got one back on the half hour when Caley Thistle loan youngster Ben Barron scored to make it 2-1 at the break.
Cans pushed for an equaliser in the second half but were stung when former player Kris Duncan pounced to seal Strathspey's victory.
The win took Jags above Turriff into 16th place and means they cannot be caught by bottom side Fort William and are safe from the play-offs.
Deveronvale went down 1-0 at home to Clach in their penultimate fixture of the season, Connor Bunce netting in the final 15 minutes.
Rothes' match against Fort was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and now goes ahead on April 19.
Huntly's home clash with Formartine United also fell by the wayside and has been rearranged for next Wednesday.
