Newtonmore Bowling Club has become one of the first greens to reopen in the Highlands after the partial easing of the coronavirus lockdown.

The club opened its lawn green arena for the 2020 season on Tuesday when Jean Slimon delivered the first jack and Laurie Skuodas raised the club's new flag.

New president Chris Houghton commented: "2020 will certainly be a memorable season for the club. We are one of the few clubs in the north of Scotland to open so far.

"There has been a few hoops to jump through to get the club open in the present circumstances.

"New protocol like having to book a rink rather than just turn up is all new to our members and they won't be able to play in large groups.

"Some of our members are still isolating but those who are not will now be able to get a roll up and get some outside exercise.

"Here's hoping the weather stays grand for the remainder of the season."
