The Dave Way 50k starts in Grantown early tomorrow morning.

The gruelling Dava Way 50km ultramarathon gets under way at 7.30am tomorrow from the Craig McLean Leisure Centre in Grantown.

The route goes along the entire Dava Way and finishes in Forres' Grant Park.

There are around 300 runners taking part including a good turn-out from the Cairngorm Runners and elsewhere in the strath.

On the female side, Central AC Runner Fanni Gyrouko and Aberdeen athlete Chloe Sangster are likely to contest the podium

The first finisher is expected to finish around 10.15am to 10.30am.

Race director Kyle Greig said: "This is the second year running the event that forms part of the overall Moray Way Ultra Series, which also consists of the Moray Coastal Trail 50 mile, Moray Way 100 mile & Relay, the Speyside Way Ultra 50k & 100k.

"Spectators are more than welcome to come along."

The route predominantly follows the old Highland Railway line which means an off road yet runnable trail.

The flat line goes up to the Dava Summit (1050ft) before descending down to sea level.

Highlights enroute include the Divie viaduct, the trail's icon, saved from demolition by Lord Laing and Huntly's Cove, a gorge where the 2nd Marquis of Huntly holed up in 1645.
