Council house rent consultations to start in Highlands

Highland Council has kicked off its annual council house rent consultation across the region.

The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 requires social landlords to consult tenants and take account of their views when making decisions about proposed rent increases.

Highland Council is hitting the road to gauge opinions on rents for council properties.

The authority's tenant participation team is starting a month long trip around Highland communities talking to tenants about what their rent money is spent on and consulting on the rent they will pay in 2020 / 2021.

Officials will visit as many areas in Highland as they can before November 30 and talk to as many tenants as possible.

They will be in the strath on November 11 with more details to be announced nearer the time.

A consultation paper has been sent out to all council house tenants and those affected can also take part online at www.surveymonkey/r/rentc

Councillor John Finlayson, chair of the housing committee, said: “This consultation provides an excellent opportunity for tenants to have more of a say on how their rent is spent and managed, therefore it is important that as many people as possible take part and share their views with us.”
