Newtonmore climb to fourth in the Mowi Premiership after beating Skye Camanachd 4-0 in Portree on Saturday.

Skye had some early pressure but when Newtonmore settled into the game, they never looked like losing.

Iain Robinson reacted first to break the deadlock from inside the D midway through the first half following Declan Brannan’s corner from the left.

Joe Coyle came off the bench to finish low into the goal when Skye failed to clear their lines early in the second half before Declan Brannan’s low ball into the danger area deceived home keeper Ryan Morrison as Joe Coyle ran in to try and take a touch.

Iain Robinson’s second with five minutes remaining was the goal of the match.

Some excellent play down the right created the chance with substitutes Tristan Ross, Joe Coyle and Matthew Sloss all involved and Robinson’s deft flick lifted the ball over the Skye keeper.

Speaking straight after the final whistle. ‘More manager Peter Ross said: “That’s the way I want Newtonmore teams to play.

“We were right up for it from the first minute and I’ve got to pick out Steven MacDonald as I thought he was outstanding today.

“In fact, the whole defence was brilliant, and the midfield played off that. Declan Brannan has come back into the team with a great attitude this last three weeks and he’s playing well.

“We went with the same forwards again and they were also good.

“The introduction of Joe (Coyle), Matthew (Sloss) and Tristan (Ross), and moving Struan Ross back to wing centre for the second half all worked well for us.

“Skye won in the MacTavish at The Eilan but this was roles reversed because that’s what they did to us that day.”

Newtonmore travel west against this weekend as they play Kinlochshiel at Rèaraig, also in the Mowi Premiership.
