Scotland Cup, which was scheduled to take place at the Caledonian Stadium at lunchtime on Tuesday as the “Strathy” went to press.

The Jags are yet to win a tie in the competition and despite their dismal record, manager Brian Ritchie is bizarrely keeping his fingers crossed for a tie away from Seafield Park.

Ritchie explained the logic: “Donly (McLeod, chairman) has been busy with the committee doing up the ground, so to be honest with you, we are looking for an away match.

“Without being disrespectful, if we get through the first round it is a bonus, but we are really concentrating on the first game of the league season.”

Ritchie is looking to avoid one particular club, however, and has fingers crossed that Strathspey can be paired with one of his former sides.

He stated: “We will take anything but it would be nice to avoid Nairn as we already have them three games in a row from the end of last season into the beginning of the new campaign.

“However, it would be nice to get a shot at Clach early doors.

“They are one of my former clubs and I always enjoy playing against them because I have a lot of old friends there, so it would be nice to get them in what would be my first official match in charge.”
