Over 140 for Saturday’s Parkrun outing in Aviemore
A warm sunny day and perfect conditions saw a bumper attendance of 141 runners and walkers on Saturday.
Some 70 people from all over the UK ran for the first time and a large number of family groups with small children attended, along with the usual complement of buggies and dogs and club vests.
An impressive19 runners and walkers recorded personal bests.
First male runner was Jack Ward of Highland Hill Runners in a time of 17:31 and first female was local runner Alison Unwin in a time of 22:58.
“As ever the run could not have taken place without the volunteers,” said the day’s race director Malcolm Hinsley. “We are always looking for more – it’s another way to take part and a fun social way for kick start your weekend.”
The run also welcomed Keanu Jackson, a former Royal Engineer, in the middle of a charity run from John o’Groats to Lands End.
He’s running 20 miles a day solo and unsupported to raise awareness and money for ‘Help for Heroes’.
“He’s stopping on Saturdays to visit the local parkrun for a recovery day and joined us, taking on our parkwalker volunteer role.

Parkrun UK is currently in the middle of a parkwalk campaign - parkrun is not just for club runners and joggers, it’s for anyone seeking a healthier and happier life and it’s OK to walk the whole 5k.
On April 26 it’s hoping to attract the most walkers ever nationwide, said Mr Hinsley.
“We’d like to see as many of you as possible, especially if you’ve never tried it before, and you will not come last, we have a tail walker for that.”
Anyone from four years old - under 11’s must be accompanied by an adult - through to 80+ can join in and anyone from walkers to competitive runners and extreme endurance athletes take part.
“Next week will be Easter bank holiday weekend, usually our busiest day of the year with quite an atmosphere, and in a few weeks (May 10).”
