Cairngorm Ski Club on top of the world!

This week saw 34 adventurous Cairngorm Ski Club members and five dogs take to the hills to raise funds for a club storm shelter they will one day be able to call “home”.

“We’re so proud of all the kids and their parents,” said the club’s development officer, Amanda Shepherd.

“Everyone involved, ages ranging between six and 60, absolutely nailed the Two Munro Challenge in under seven hours – covering a distance of 17.5km and ascent of 932m.”

Her Big Challenge event, led by Glenmore Lodge’s Andy Townsend took the team up to the summit of the UK’s second highest peak, Ben Macdui, returning via a steep climb up to the weather station at the top of Cairngorm Mountain.

“We had the full-on Scottish hill walking experience. Midges first thing, blue skies half way up, wind and low cloud at the top but sadly no view, then blue skies on our return back to the Cairngorm car park.

“But we all had a ball!

“And the best thing of all is that we have managed to raise over £1000 for the club so we can continue to offer high quality ski coaching that is accessible and affordable for all!”
