Works starts tomorrow on £9m trainline improvements between Carrbridge and Blair Atholl
Network Rail engineers will be working around-the-clock over the next four weekends to renew key pieces of infrastructure on the Highland mainline.
Buses will replace trains between Perth and Inverness while the works – which are part of a £9m investment in the railway – take place.
The project will see engineers renew or refurbish switches and crossings – moveable sections of track that guide trains from one line to another – at various locations between Blair Atholl and Carrbridge.
Work will also be underway in Killiecrankie where the Rannoch Road bridge over the railway is being demolished and replaced.
Passengers are being advised that a bus replacement service will be in operation during the weekends from tomorrow (Saturday) to Sunday December 8.
Ross Moran, Network Rail Scotland route director, said: “The investment we’re making will help keep services reliable for years to come.
“We understand that there’s never a good time to close the railway, however, these works can only be delivered when trains are not operating on the line.
“We advise everyone planning on travelling on the route during the works to plan ahead and we thank passengers for their patience.”
