Strath schools escape closure as winter closes in again
With winter weather warnings being borne out a large number of schools closed today across the Highlands – but none in Badenoch and Strathspey.
In all, three secondary schools were shut, denying 609 pupils today's classes, while 24 primaries remained closed, accounting for another 878 pupils. There are 141 nursery children locked out by the cold conditions as well, but all of the strath's students are reported to be in class for the day.
The Badenoch and Strathspey roads report, issued at 7.37 this morning, confirms snowfall in the north area overnight, with some three to five centimetres on all routes.
All routes were being treated with priority to primary and secondary roads.
There were no known overnight issues.
"Drivers are advised to take care when driving throughout the area."
On neighbouring Inverness roads there was a dusting of snow this morning.
"We are treating all of them," a council spokesperson confirmed.
"Driver caution is advised on all routes. There were no known overnight issues."
Weather warnings issued yesterday remain in place.
A Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice has in fact been extended beyond Wednesday now until Friday.
"Today frequent snow showers will continue, causing further disruption in places."
