The Cairngorms’ hen harrier day today (Sunday, August 7) has been blown away.

Organisers of the event, planned for the base station on CairnGorm, announced this morning that due to high winds the attempt to “reverse the fortunes” of the endangered birds had had to be held over.

Campaigners were due to hear six addresses from specialists in their fields on a wide range of issues related to the conservation of hen harriers.

Ways of preserving the embattled species n the Scottish Highlands and the general UK upland landscape were due to be aired.

The programme featured Brian Etheridge, former RSPB Raptor Monitoring Officer; Allan Bantick, a former chair of the Scottish Wildlife Trust; Inverness poet and former rock musician Jeep Solid; Peter Argyle, the Convenor of Cairngorm National Park Authority; Thomas MacDonnell , the Glenfeshie estate manager and Ian Thomson - Head of Investigations at RSBP Scotland.

Re-scheduling arrangements have not as yet been announced.
