Families of the soldiers of The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, have enjoyed a free visit to the Highland Wildlife Park.

Members of 3 SCOTS are returning to Afghanistan shortly for another six to seven month tour, leaving behind their wives and children at their base at Fort George by Inverness.

As this is an especially hard time for the families, the Highland Wildlife Park teamed up with Katie Gladstone, one of the wives, and the Army Welfare Team to offer the special treat for them.

Their visit included a special tour of the main reserve of the attraction by Kincraig and the chance to see Walker the polar bear enjoying a splash in his pool.

Helen Armour, visitor services officer at the wildlife park, wished the soldiers who will be departing for Afghanistan next month all the best on behalf of all the staff working there.

She said: "We were delighted to welcome the soldiers and their families to the wildlife park.

"We will be working further with the Army Welfare Team this year and inviting the families back while their spouses are serving in Afghanistan."
