A Grantown fire crew were quickly on the scene near Carrbridge this morning when the alarm went up over a potential wild fire.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told the Strathy that a pillar of smoke had appeared just north of the village in an inaccessible area.

After the Highlands’ driest spring since 2001, multiple alarms went up from right across the area at 11.22 this morning.

“Due to high winds, a large plume of smoke is drifting across the nearby populated areas,” was posted at the time by the service, as the firefighters made their way across from the Strathspey capital.

Residents throughout the area were warned: “If smoke is visible, please keep your windows and doors closed.”

“Members of the public no longer need to alert our Operations Control room about this fire, as we are receiving a large number of calls.”

The action taken by the SFRS was quick enough to bring matters under control quickly and the ‘stop’ notice was issued to the crew just after 1.30 this afternoon.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed or released as yet.
