What connects Strathspey Thistle and world's richest football club?
What connects Strathspey Thistle and the world's newly crowned richest football club?
The answer is Aviemore's Grant Pringle.
The former Kingussie High School pupil now manages Newcastle United's official Twitter account and it fell to him to announce the long-awaited completion of the deal to Toon Army fans across the globe.
He tweeted: "I have never been so nervous hitting send on a Tweet in my life."
"What a crazy, stressful, uncertain 18 months it's been but hopefully the fun starts now."
Grant's Tweet was featured in Sky Sports New's rolling coverage of the takeover by the Saudi owned investment group PIF which was concluded this afternoon after 18 months of uncertainty.
The journalist has been social media officer for Newcastle United since 2019, having previously been social and digital media manager for Ipswich Town.
His previous work placements include with Inverness Caley Thistle, and Strathspey Thistle reporter for MMPG Ltd from July 2010 to January 2012, and he even had a stint learning the ropes at the Strathy.
Grant's job will have gone from fielding brickbats and worse directed at the club under the ownership of the unpopular Mike Ashley to no doubt being much easier for the foreseeable future.
There was lots of good natured banter from the club's Twitter followers many asking to be unblocked for previous run-ins with the Newcastle United social media account on Grant's own personal account.
