Kincraig watchdog beats killjoy Covid with Christmas cards and presents

Senior citizens in one Badenoch village have begun receiving very pleasant surprises in their mail this week.

Along with colourful, beautifully made Christmas cards courtesy of Alvie Primary School artists, the envelopes contain gift vouchers for local hostelries and eateries.

Kincraig and Vicinity Community Council was determined not to be beaten altogether by the pandemic restrictions over the festive season.

As a printed note accompanying the card explains:

"We are sorry that we cannot organise and host the annual seniors festive lunch party this year – as we know how valuable it is to you to meet up with friends.

"Instead we are sending you a gift voucher to hopefully entertain yourselves at home, in a restaurant or a bar, with friends, as Covid rules allow and also, importantly, to support our local businesses too."

The voucher, which is worth £15, is valid until December 23 and has been backed by village firms: Loch Insh Restaurant and Bar, Lunch Box Boys' home delivery service, Old Post Office Cafe Gallery, Rowantree Hotel Restaurant and the Suie Bar.

It's signed "Kincraig Community working together."

One of the first recipients in the village told the Strathy: "I was bowled over today to get this beautiful gesture through the post.

"It's just great our local community councillors chose to do this and involve our lovely eating houses.

"It makes you proud to be from Kincraig!"
