Kingussie work party works through the night to upgrade tracks
As scheduled, weekend works have got under way on the Highland Main Line in Badenoch.
The first work party moved in at Kingussie early on Saturday morning.
Neighbour Ruaridh Ormiston of Highland Horse Fun on Ruthven Road reported: “It looks like it’s going to be a few busy nights on the railway here at Kingussie judging by the amount of men, machines, vans and welfare units in the sidings at Kingussie railway station tonight.
“I do hope they do not keep too many people awake…”
No trains will run on the Highland Mainline for four weekends in a row.
Buses will replace trains between Inverness and Perth in both directions while engineering work is carried out.
The highly disruptive works got under way as programmed yesterday, with buses now running instead of trains on the weekends of November 16-17, 23-24, November 30 and December 1, and December 7-8.
The disruption was confirmed on ScotRail's website, and it is understood it will affect ScotRail journeys between Inverness and the Central Belt, as well as LNER journeys between the Highland capital and London Kings Cross.
The Caledonian Sleeper, meanwhile, will divert via Aberdeen on those dates, with stations between Perth and Inverness being covered by bus replacement connections.
The engineering work will be taking place on different sections of the Highland Mainline, depending on the weekend, but the closure between Perth and Inverness will be in force for each of them.
