Water supplies should be back to normal
SCOTTISH Water has said that water supplies should be back to normal after interuptions to the network yesterday afternoon.
They had advised customers via the Strathy’s website just a short time earlier that supplies were likely to be interrupted due to emergency repairs on a key pipeline.
One of the large pipes that brings water down towards Aviemore from Loch Einich in the Cairngorms has developed a serious leak and their workers had to carry out repairs.
For their safely, it meant the flow of water had to be shut off .
Properties were expected to be affected on the outskirts of Aviemore, Coylumbridge, Inverdruie, Boat of Garten, Dulnain Bridge, Kincraig, and as far south as Insh and Lynchat.
The company said repairs started at around 2.30pm and were completed a few hours later.
A Scottish Water spokesman said: "The repair was completed just after 5pm and the water mains started to refill. We only took a couple of dozen calls from customers reporting loss of supply so it seems the impact was very limited.
"We distributed a couple of hundred bottles of water at various locations throughout the strath but I suspect these weren’t needed.
"However, we took a belt and braces approach just in case the repair took longer and given how busy the area is with holidaymakers at this time of year."
He added: "The burst itself was in boggy ground uphill from Blackpark and our guys did a great job getting on top of things quickly. We’re looking forward to the new supply from Kinakyle on the outskirts of Aviemore coming on stream soon, hopefully end of October.
"This will be much more reliable.
"Many thanks to those affected yesterday for their patience."
