Scottish Water has said that normal service should have been resumed after there was a disruption in supply to some homes in the strath overnight.

They had advised earlier in the day yesterday that supplies could be interrupted overnight due to emergency repairs on a key pipeline.

One of the large pipes that bring water down towards Aviemore from Loch Einich in the Cairngorms had developed a leak.

Repairs were carried out between 10pm last night and 6am this morning in a bid to minimise disruption for customers.

A Scottish Water spokesman said: "All went to plan as far as I'm aware.

"We took about 30 calls from customers during the course of last night's repair who either had no water or low pressure. Many thanks to them for their patience."

To carry out the repair safely the flow of water has to be shut off.

Homes affected included those on the outskirts of Aviemore, Coylumbridge, Inverdruie, parts of Boat of Garten, Dulnain Bridge, Kincraig, and as far south as Insh and Lynchat.

The spokesman said that although it is the same pipe line it is a different section to that which had to be repaired just a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone still experiencing problems should call Scottish Water's Customer Helpline on 0845 601 8855.

Scottish Water's new £24 million Aviemore water treatment works, which uses boreholes, is expected to come on stream in the coming months.

It means that they will no longer be using Loch Einich and the pipelines that bring the water to local houses.
