The family of late Aviemore Primary School janitor Stevie Gibb have said a massive thank you for the support they received at the weekend’s fundraising match in his honour.

His wife Angela has said it woud mean so much to them all if The Mr Gibb memorial match was to become an annual fixture.

The game was played in fine weather and spirit on Saturday afternoon at the village’s community footy pitch and ended in a 4-3 win for local welfare league champions Aviemore Thistle against a Speyside Utd select - the team that Mr Gibb founded and managed.

Angela said: “The event was such a huge success and I am so proud that we were able to honour Steven’s memory in such a beautiful way.

“I feel very emotional because the amount of support that we received as a family was incredibly overwhelming in the most positive way.

“I would like to say a special thank you to my cousin James and his wife Nicola for their efforts in organising the fundraiser in which we raised £3276.50 to be donated to Aviemore Primary School PTA.

“It would mean a great deal to me if we could make this an annual event to keep the spirit of Steven’s helpful and giving nature to live on and continue to help the community the way he always did.

“Thank you to all the businesses who donated prizes to the raffle and all individuals who made donations, along with every single person who played a role in organising the event.”

Son Ross said: “I was blown away with the love and support from everyone involved in Saturday’s match.

“The support from the Aviemore community was incredible - especially from all of the kids whom my father has had a massive impact on.

“It was an immensely proud moment to see how much people loved and respected my father .

“I would like to say a massive thank you on behalf of myself and dad who I know would have been watching with pride.”
