Time for a friendly flutter for Cairngorms chicken run

A Boat of Garten farm has been getting its followers in a flap with a brand new form of sporting entertainment.

The owners of Tullochgorum Farm have hatched their own fun idea to keep friends and the wider public entertained during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Without even having to be egged on, they have created their own recorded race to find out which of their hens rules the roost in the speed stakes.

But will it be Jalfrezi, Motherclucker, Hard Pecks and Susan Boiled or Barry who will suck seed, sorry, succeed?

Pick which chicken you each think will reign supreme in your group and set some wagers.

The chickens:

1. Jalfrezi

2. Hard Pecks

3. Susan Boiled

4. Mother Clucker

5. Barry

Rules:

* First chicken to reach the finish line wins; and

* If the winning chicken is not one that your group has chosen, then the first chosen chicken to the finish lines wins.

Katie Beazley, who farms at Tullochgorum with her partner Duncan Miller, explained what was behind the inaugural race.

She said: "We have a few family chickens that bless us with delicious fresh eggs daily and recently we have been astonished at just how speedy they can be while freely roaming the farm.

"Which got us thinking...

"In order to spread some joy during lockdown we decided to hold the first ever Tullochgorum Farm Chicken Race to give our friends and others in their lockdown bubbles the chance to come together with a light-hearted but egg-cellent race."

They were encouraged to pick the chicken supreme ahead of watching the race on Facebook.

Katie said: "People have been commenting and messaging us personally saying thank you for cheering us up. Someone has even told us they are going to name there first born after one of the contestants, Barry."

The four minute fun video was created by Duncan's brother Ross under the banner name Social Distance Sports.
