Grantown will salute the sacrifices and celebrate the peace they secured
Grantown will celebrate its 80th VE Day in traditional British style tomorrow - with fish and chips.
A full programme drawn up by the Royal British Legion (Scotland) Strathspey will feature a two-minute silence at 3pm to commemorate Victory in Europe.
“This moment of silence is a national tradition to remember and honour the sacrifices made during World War II,” said a Legion spokesman as preparations got under way at the clubrooms in the Square.
After the service and before the fish & chips supper all those celebrating the day will be treated to a display of personal images by Charles Lyons, featuring his service with members of the Royal family on board the QE2.
The event is scheduled to begin at 2.40pm with a welcome from branch chairman Ewan MacGregor and a recording of Winston Churchill’s VE Day announcement.

A piper will play The Flowers of the Forest as the standards are lowered for the three minute silence.
After the raising of the standards RBLS president Jimmy Greig will replace the poppy wreath under the Strathspey capital’s home-coming solider and there will be a reading of Angela Wybrow’s VE Day Poem.
A prayer will follow from Rev Elizabeth MacLean.
