UPDATE: What is hold-up parking meters coming into force at Cairngorms’ most popular beauty spot?
Highland Council said it still has two matters to resolve before recently installed Pay and Display meters come into force in Glenmore.
The parking meters are lined up ready for action by Loch Morlich but still not in use two weeks on.
They have been causing plenty of double takes from motorists as the glorious spring weather continues to bring out the visitors to the beauty spot.
The introduction of the Pay and Display meters is part of wider measures to make the popular area safer for pedestrians especially at peak times when the summer sun shines.
A council spokesperson said “The on-street parking meters have been installed and the council is awaiting the set-up of a monthly pass, and an annual Badenoch and Strathspey residents visitor permit allowing for a reduced price.
“The off-street car parking Traffic Order has an objection which the council is working on at the moment so the council will not be taking this on yet.
“The FLS machines may be updated soon but will not be operated by the council until the TRO is in place.”
The traffic control measure has long been lined up but the move was slowed somewhat when the local authority was forced to dilute its proposals last summer following a public backlash.
The costs of the parking tickets have been lowered from the charges originally proposed and a new bottom rate three hours stay for £3 introduced rather than the previously proposed one hour of parking for £2.
One of the biggest climbdowns was an end to a proposed ban on overnight parking at the new Pay and Display bays.
Much of the Glenmore stretch of the Cairngorm ski road will be paid for parking with the rest of the route being designated as no waiting zones.
The Pay and Display restrictions will be in force to the end of October once operational.
The initial public consultation on the parking plans provoked a big backlash with 83 objections eventually being lodged.
Well-over a million visitors a year call in at Loch Morlich, its beach and the surrounding area.
