UPDATE: Two men and woman taken to hospital after serious crash on A9 by Dalwhinnie

Police have said that three people were taken to hospital by ambulance after last night's serious road accident by Dalwhinnie.

The A9 re-opened at around 1am after being closed in both directions for seven hours with diversions in place through the village.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.35pm yesterday police were called to a three vehicle road crash on the A9 south of Crubenmore near Cuiach in Badenoch.

"Two men and a woman were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

"The road was closed for around seven hours to clear the road of debris.

"Enquiries into the cause of the collision are continuing."

The conditions of the three casualties remains unknown at this time.

One Dalwhinnie resident said: "We were travelling home around 7.45pm last night and it looked awful.

"We always use the Crubenmore to Dalwhinnie road and many cars had already started using the route by this time.

"From the old military road it was clear to see long tailbacks and a long stretch of road affected with blue lights so it looked like a major incident.

"It appeared to be a busy night for emergency services.

"From a distance there were multiple emergency vehicles at the scene so it didn’t look good.

"By 11pm traffic of all sizes was being diverted through Dalwhinnie as we could hear and see it from our home.

"Some residents living along the A889 through Dalwhinnie were frustrated and frightened by speeds that many vehicles were passing their homes at so I believe the police were called to help manage it."
