UPDATE: Sterritt and Peters to go again today in bid for Paris Olympics medal

Kingussie’s Fynn Sterritt and teammate Jame Peters will go again today in their bid an Olympic medal in the Men’s Skiff (49er) Medal Race.

Day five of the Paris 2024 Olympic Sailing Competition proved to be another testing day on the water but for very different reasons to usual.

In spite of the race committee’s best efforts, the fickle wind yesterday led to two attempted races being abandoned.

The lack of wind in the bay off Marseillie ultimately meant that the fleet had to return to shore.

Paris Olympics race organisers will try again today - the designated reserve day put aside for such events.

The rescheduled race is due to get off at 12.10pm.

Sterritt said: “We're in a great position in terms of being able to attack and I think we're in that really positive opportunity mindset, so each time we got a race away it was just really exciting.

“Obviously it's sort of turned inside out a little bit and the wind's struggled to stay for the whole race.

“But it just always felt like we were going to be on the front foot and going to try and attack the race. So it was actually quite enjoyable.”

Peters, from Hayling Island in Hampshire, said: “We had a good wind forecast. We thought it was going to be on.

“So we were fully expecting to just get it done and come in and it would be finished. But the wind was just retreating across the bay.

“We got two races away and neither we were able to finish as there was no wind. So a long day and no racing!

“Our plan is to choose before the race what we think is going to win the race, and then just go all guns blazing and at it.

“Hopefully it's right. If it is, then we've got a chance. We’ll give ourselves that chance.”
