Two wards reopen at Raigmore Hospital after sickness bug
Two wards at Inverness’ Raigmore Hospital have reopened following a period of closure due to norovirus.
Wards 7A and 6C came back into operation over the weekend but Wards 2A and 2C remain closed due to diarrhoea and vomiting.
A hospital spokeswoman said: "Visiting to the closed wards is suspended and we are asking that visiting to other areas within the hospital is restricted to two visitors per patient and would once again request that children do not visit the hospital.
"We would ask that all non-essential visitors stay away from the hospital.
"However, if you feel that visiting one of the closed wards is essential, please contact the ward first by phone before coming to hospital.
"Please do not visit the ward unless by prior arrangement with the nurse in charge.
"We are also asking for support from the public to help prevent the spread of norovirus into other wards in Raigmore Hospital."
The spokeswoman continued: "If you have had symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting or live with someone who has please do not visit the hospital until you have been clear of symptoms for 48 hours. Doing this will help us limit the spread as much as possible.
"There is no specific treatment for a norovirus infection and it is not usually necessary to visit a doctor. The best course of action is to stay at home, take paracetamol to relieve symptoms of any fever and to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
"People should also adhere to strict hand washing techniques to reduce the spread of the virus."
