A two-vehicle crash has closed the A86 at Balgowan just west of Newtonmore.

Emergency services were quick to attend this morning after the alarm went out just after 10 o’clock, with three fire appliances despatched from Aviemore, Kingussie and Newtonmore.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have since told the Strathy the Aviemore unit was sent back before it reached the crash site and the other two crews have since been withdrawn.

“An ambulance attended the site this morning,” a spokesperson confirmed.

Police were also on the scene.

Traffic Scotland is reporting that traffic both east and westbound is blocked currently with the closure of the road.

“The A86 is currently closed in both directions between Balgowan and Laggan due to a road traffic incident.

“Motorists are advised to use an alternative route and this time and allow extra time for their journey.”
