Two climbers have been located and are safe and well after being reported overdue whilst in the Cairngorms.

Police in Aviemore received a report yesterday at around 6.30pm hours that the two men were missing.

They had been intending to go climbing near the Stag Rocks in the Loch A’an area.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Contact was made with the two men who are both from outwith the Highlands and Islands.

"They confirmed that they had access to shelter for the night and search and rescue efforts were postponed until today."

Members of the Cairngorm, Braemar and RAF Lossiemouth mountain rescue teams and RAF rescue helicopter 137 were involved in the operation to locate the pair.

The two men, both in their twenties, were located at around 10.30am and were escorted off the hills at noon.
