Twin investigations are under way into an alleged incident of fan violence directed at a player during a shinty match last Saturday.

If true then it would mark the second incident of unwanted fan involvement in a sport in less than a week after a member of Ross County’s staff was spat at in Livingston.

Over the weekend, Caberfeidh travelled to Reraig to take on Kinlochshiel for a premiership match that ended nil-nil.

During the game a melee broke out when it is alleged that a spectator ran on to the field and hit a 17 year old player between the legs with a caman.

Video from the game did not record the incident but it does show one player on the ground in apparent pain and struggling to stand up.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman has confirmed that enquiries are ongoing.

She said: "We have received a report of an assault that took place on Saturday, 24 May, 2025 in Balmacara."

The Camanachd Association was quick to act, with chief executive Ruari Davidson confirming it is investigating is taking the matter “extremely seriously.”

“We're aware of an allegation made regarding an individual's conduct during a Premiership game on Saturday,” he said.

“The Camanachd Association takes allegations of this nature extremely seriously and are committed to handling them with the strictest adherence to our established policies and procedures.

“We have opened up an urgent investigation into the matter and it would be inappropriate to comment further whilst the investigation is under way”.

The Camanachd Association’s code for spectators encourages them to “help the players to enjoy themselves, by lending positive support”.

It goes on to say that the “abuse of players, coaches or officials is unacceptable” and reminds fans: “Spectators should not enter the playing enclosure”.

In outlining some of the duties of referees the association’s Byelaws state: “The referee shall report to the appropriate authority misconduct on the part of the spectators, club office bearers, goal judges, team officials, players, named substitutes, or other persons which takes place either on the field of play or in its vicinity at any time prior to, during, or after the match in question so that appropriate action can be taken by the authority concerned.”
