'Words are not enough' say Newtonmore Camanachd after tragic loss of young star
Tributes continue to pour in across social media after Thursday's shock news of shinty star Andy 'Tosh' MacKintosh's death at just 31.
Newtonmore Camanachd could find no words to convey their feelings at the loss, beyond this heartfelt announcement:
"Andy MacKintosh
19.3.1991-1.5.2022
There literally are not any words to convey our feelings at the club today.
Our love, prayers and every waking thought are with Megan, Marnie, Hadley, Iain, Christine, Alison, the MacKintosh family and all of Andy's many, many friends, we send our deepest condolences to them all.
The darkest shadow has come over us as Andy's bright light has gone from the shinty world and our community."
The club chose instead to feature pictures of joyous and heroic action, leaving the words to others.
The one-time Scotland defender, who followed his father Iain into his home club, has been hailed as a “true soldier” of the sport, with clubs across the country sending their condolences.
Andy's many accomplishment included the captaincy at The Eilan which claimed a Camanachd Cup and MacTavish Cup double in 2018.
His fiancée Megan Hart posted her gratitude on Facebook: “Thank you all for messaging. I can’t even put into words. He will be loved and missed by so many.”
Shinty commentator Hugh Dan MacLennan could not recall the shinty community "ever being tested like this in my lifetime. It is an apparently endless list of good people taken far too soon."
He concurred with Newtonmore Shinty Club that “there are no words which can be of comfort but the images may say more than anyone can right now. My deepest sympathies to everyone concerned.”
Team mates have shared their memories and emotions, with Drew MacDonald promising: "I’ll forever love you Tosh.”
Dozens of condolences and photographs have been posted on the club's site.
"Deepest condolences to Andy's family, friends, Newtonmore Camanachd Club and all the Newtonmore community on your loss," wrote old rivals from the Kyle. "The thoughts and prayers of all at Kyles are with you."
