Lord Strathspey, Sir James Grant of Grant, has passed away after a short illness.
The funeral service for the 33rd Chief of Clan Grant will take place in the heartlands at Abernethy Old Kirk on the outskirts of Nethy Bridge next Friday (June 9) at 11.30am.
Lord Strathspey – Donald Patrick Trevor Grant of Grant – died at home last Friday (May 26).
He was a regular attendee at the Abernethy Highland Games in Nethy Bridge which is the traditional gather of the Clan Grant from across the world.
Tributes have been paid from residents in the village.
Patricia Eccles said: "What a wonderful character. He will be missed. Game for anything and huge thanks from Castle Grant for his support – just eight months ago being captured by the Jacobites at Castle Roy.
"We will miss you and your wonderful grin."
Debbie Mcintosh posted: "So sorry to read this. Always a good laugh to be had when he called into the barber's. Condolences to all of the family."
In a message to clan members at the end of last year, Lord Strathspey stated: "My goodness it was wonderful to be back in August, marching with the Clan behind the massed pipes and drums.
"I didn’t realise how much I had missed our Gathering (due to the Covid pandemic).
"I would like to thank everyone behind the organisation of the new tent. It was splendid to see, we really made the statement that 'Clan Grant is here'!
"Lots to see and read, well done. I know how hard you all had to work to achieve this – so much is done behind the scenes that we never see.
"Wonderful news as I am sure you will agree, an International in 2025! You have plenty of time to make your arrangements, let’s make it a real occasion and hope it makes more local Grants want to join in with us."
Those who wish to attend Lord Strathspey's funeral service will be warmly welcome.
Donations are being collected for Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie.
