Traffic lights have been set up to allow an amount of traffic flow while the major clean-up and restoration job gets under way.

It was at 18.50pm on Monday that BEAR received reports of at least 600 tonnes of mud and debris at several areas along a 1.5km section of the A86 east of Roybridge.

What had caused the disruption to the ground was sudden and heavy rainfall in the tinder-dry area.

"The team worked with the police to assess the area and close the road to keep drivers safe," a spokesperson at BEAR told the Strathy.

"Due to the volume of debris on the road and movement on the slope above, we had to keep the road closed and put a diversion in place."

A BEAR team began clearing the road first thing yesterday morning and were able to allow local access for the nearby communities quite quickly.

"We will complete the removal of the debris, clean up the drainage systems and clear any blocked culverts this morning."
