The band Runrig has announced details of their first concert in Scotland in almost two years.

The group, which has had an 18 month sabbatical from the touring circuit, is back on the road in 2012 with their Rewired Tour.

They will be playing their only outdoor Scottish date on Saturday August 25 at the Northern Meeting Park in Inverness.

Tickets go on sale on Friday at 9am for the show being brought to the region by promoters CK Events. The gig will see the band perform new material to a limited capacity audience of 7,500.

The band, who have released 13 studio albums, have said they are returning from the break with new material and a renewed sense of purpose.

Lead singer, Bruce Guthro, said: "They say absence makes the heart grow fonder and, I know that I speak for all of us when I say, I’m really excited about getting back on stage with the band again.

"I think the break has been very positive for us all - it has given us a freshness, and an energy, of which the audience will, hopefully, be the main benefactors."

Kenny Cameron of CK Events said: "We’re delighted to be bringing Runrig back to Scotland after a two year absence.

"Runrig is a long-standing Scottish group, renowned for always putting on a great show.

"To welcome the band to Inverness for its only outdoor Scottish concert of the year, is a great honour and is shaping-up to be a fantastic night featuring performances of hits including Loch Lomond as well as new material prepared in recent months."

Tickets for the Runrig concert are available from ckevents.net or by calling 0844 888 9991, and are priced at £36.
