Today's decision day at Kincraig!
The social media frenzy over the Highland Wildlife Park’s beautiful baby boy comes to a head today (Thursday, April 27).
This is the last chance to choose from the four names suggested for the first British polar bear cub in 25 years.
There are four to choose from and there have been no shortage of votes - by Tuesday more than 33,500 of them, said the park’s spokesperson.
"Hamish" was way out in front earlier this week, with well over 20,000 votes, but that may well have changed by now.
Other suggestions are:
Artor, in keeping with the park’s strong Scottish connections; it’s a Pictish name relating directly to bear and a nod to the cub’s father, whose name Arktos is "bear" in Greek.
Poulsen in memory of the renowned bear behaviourist Else Poulsen, whose expertise is still felt at the Kincraig park today.
And MacKinnon in dedication to a long-term supporter of Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, with a particular passion for Highland Wildlife Park and its polar bears.
