It's spring cleaning time on the Spey





This weekend sees the big "Single Spey River Clean" effort.

"It should be a cracking event," says co-ordinator Tom Rawson.

"I have my fingers crossed for better weather than the last edition!"

Volunteers are sought across the area as another atttempt is made to "spring clean" one of the country's most beautiful stretches of water.

Tomorrow (Saturday) will see a team gathering at Grantown's old Spey Bridge from 10am, while further downstream others will do the same work at Fochabers and Aberlour.

On Sunday the local effort will start at Aviemore from 10am, gathering at the Old Bridge Inn.

At Kingussie the campaigners will meet up at the Dell shinty pitch at 1.30pm, while up on the coast volunteers will get to grips with the littering around Spey Bay.

There are other locations being addressed, said Mr Rawson, including Newtonmore, Loch Insh and Boat of Garten.
