Three airlifted to hospital after Cairngorms avalanche
Police have confirmed that two people are being airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following an avalanche in the Cairngorms at lunchtime.
It occurred in Chalamain Gap area - a popular route with walkers - at around 12.30pm
One man had already been airlifted to the same hospital earlier.
The conditions of three people caught up in the avalanche are not known at this time.
The Chalamain Gap is a deep, rocky cleft in the Cairngorms, on the classic walkers' route from the Cairngorm ski road - accessed from the Sugarbowl car park - to the Lairig Ghru and Braeriach.
It is renowned for the boulders in the pass which are substantial in size - many as big as a person - and they form a formidable obstacle in icy or snowy conditions.
