Aviemore runs were 'great boost in hard times'
"It feels wonderful to have another successful event under our belt – and money in the bank," says the director of the Aviemore outdoor centre which benefited from the village's latest running extravaganza.
Getting his breath after thousands attended last week's Aviemore Half-Marathon and 10k weekend, Andrew MacKenzie of Speyside Trust's Badaguish centre told the Strathy today (Monday, October 21): "It’s a great boost in hard times that the charity can rely on this support every year."
Even better news was that it had all gone off without incident.
"Again," said Mr Mackenzie, "we have no major incidents or injuries and as always its thanks to all our helpers, volunteers, rescue medics and the Police that we can put on such a safe and well organised event.
"We are so proud of the welcome that Aviemore puts on to make everyone feel so welcome and just so happy to be here."
Every year competitors feedback was full of praise for volunteers, supporters and for the event, he went on.
"It's no surprise that many now plan their holiday visits to fit next year’s event date.
"This year it was fitting that our Special Endeavour Awards should go to two very special couples who have supported us ever since the first event in 2006.
"Mr and Mrs Arnott Kidd are an 85-year-old couple who have run the 10K every year and Mr and Mrs Peter Buck first flew over from Seattle to compete in 2006 and returned this year to bring their donations up to a grand total of £3000!"
