Aviemore’s ‘No fires please!’ plea tonight as inferno spreads
As the Highland and Moray wildfires continued to ravage our open country tonight one of Badenoch and Strathspey’s hard-pressed firefighting teams urged the public not to light any fires outdoors.
No further general statements have come from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service HQ since this morning, but this evening Aviemore Community Fire Station beseeched:
“NO FIRES PLEASE”
The team have posted: “Over the weekend, Aviemore firefighters have been working tirelessly with other SFRS crews and estate workers to control multiple large fires across the area.
“Our resources are stretched, and conditions remain extremely dangerous.
“We urgently ask the public not to light any fires, including campfires, disposable BBQs or rubbish fires.
“Even small fires can spread quickly and put lives, the environment, wildlife, property and our crews at risk.
“Help us protect our community and don’t light fires.”
The statement from Aviemore urged everyone: “Please stay alert for official fire warnings and restrictions in your area.
“Report any sign of fire immediately by dialing 999 and asking for the Fire Service.
“Please spread the word by sharing this post.”
