The festive lights are going on in Grantown!
Children in the Grantown area are being invited to enjoy a festive get-together on Friday (November 28).
They will be able to get together with Saranne Bish from Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers, Piers Voysey from the Anagach Woods Trust and local Highland councillor Jaci Douglas for the 10th annual Christmas Arts and Crafts event.
The event takes place from 5pm to 6.30pm upstairs in the Town House and is aimed specifically at children.
The fixture has grown from small happenings in Grantown Square to an unmissable part of the local pre-Christmas diary of events which will take place after the winter lights are switched on earlier the same evening.
Ms Bish explained: “Children attending will have the chance to make crafts including Christmas wreaths, tree and table decorations.
"All will be made from natural materials collected from Anagach Woods with some glitter and snow spray thrown in for good measure!
"For a change this year we’re making bird feeders, chocolate apples and pom-pom robins!”
This fun crafty event compliments perfectly the community’s late night shopping, carols from the school choir, hot chocolate provided by the primary school’s nursery and the lights will be switched on by Grantown Primary head teacher, James Lyon.
“Even after all these years I’m still excited about and look forward to this seasonal event!” said Saranne.
“I love the fact that many folk within Grantown have one of our table decorations on their tables as they eat Christmas dinner – a small bit of the woods joining in!”
Jaci Douglas, one of the co-organisers, said: “I can’t believe its been 10 years since the three of us decided to run a woodland Christmas craft event in Grantown and as Saranne said it’s been growing and expanding year on year.
“I always really look forward to it as with first the festive lights switch on then a few hours spent making things with glitter, glue and fake snow it always feels like the start of the Christmas season and it hopefully helps everyone get into the festive spirit.
There is a small admission price of £2 per child to take part in the crafts and arts event.
For more information phone the rangers on (01479) 873 914 otherwise just turn up on the evening. Dress warm.
The festive lights will be switched on a 4.30pm the same day with Santa Claus making a special appearance.
