The greening of the A9 in Badenoch

Everything in the Badenoch garden will be lovely if two local teams have their way.

One of them is the crew of trainees and volunteers at St Vincent’s Therapy Garden in Kingussie.

The other is a somewhat larger one - the army of A9 dualling engineers!

It’s no coincidence that a spokesperson for the mega road project has chosen now to address the local gardeners.

Carron Tobin, stakeholder manager for the dualling of the A9 from Glengarry to Dalraddy will visit the Badenoch capital to compare notes.

“She’s going to cover how the new road fits with the landscape and keeping it green,” said Mary Stewart, the project manager at Kingussie’s hospital garden.

“It’s a link to the garden work we do!”

Ms Tobin will address the local gardeners at their AGM on Thursday (April 14) at the Duke of Gordon Hotel.

With the expanding and “greening” of the A9 now well under way, it’s been the turn of the therapy gardeners to get moving. They have just re-started their regular sessions on their own patch.

Hours of work are put in by trainees from Caberfeidh House and Caberfeidh Horizons, who devote their energies to tidying up the ground and collecting leaf compost before sowing seeds for the coming, colourful year.

Said Mary: “There are opportunities for other people to participate in the therapy garden sessions and if they want to receive further information, they can contact me on 01479 810368.”
