Police Scotland confirms teenager arrested in connection with reported ‘firearms threat’ to schools in Forres, Inverness, Nairn and Auldearn has been released





A teenager has been released without charge after malicious emails, understood to be a firearms threat, were sent to multiple Moray and Highland schools.

News first broke on Friday, February 28, of a large police response in Forres to reports of a threat to schools in the area.

Police said that they had been made aware of the email and confirmed that it had also been sent to “a number of schools” in Inverness, Nairn and Auldearn.

It has not been confirmed if the emails contained a firearms threat but a 19-year-old was arrested in relation to the incident.

The force has since confirmed that the teenager has been released pending further enquiries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 8.20am on Friday, February 28, officers were made aware of a malicious email sent to a number of schools in the Nairn, Auldearn, Forres and Inverness areas.

"A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection and released pending further enquires.

"There is not believed to be a risk to the community at this time, however, anyone with concerns is encouraged to contact police.

"Police Scotland takes hoax communications extremely seriously as they divert police resources and cause unnecessary disruption and alarm to the public.

"Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
