Tankers keeping the water supplies running in Boat of Garten
Scottish Water has been bringing in lorry tankers of water to keep homes and businesses in Boat of Garten supplied after a mains burst this morning.
Work to repair the network is on-going by Kinveachy junction following the burst to the water main at around 6am.
There is standing water on the A95 Aviemore-Keith road in the vicinity.
Some local householders in and around Drumullie are being warned they will be without water temporarily whilst the repair works continue.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water told the Strathy: “A burst was detected on a 9” water main serving Boat of Garten and surrounding areas just before 6am causing lower than normal water pressure to some customers in the area and localised flooding on the A95 north of the Kinveachy junction.
“A team is now on site carrying out a repair and water is being supplied to the local network by road tanker to minimise disruption to customer supplies as far as possible.
“While a section of water main is isolated to enable the repair to take place, around 50 properties in Drumuillie and surrounding rural areas will be without water.
"Our local team has bottled water available and will be distributing this to customers in the affected area, leaving this at the entrance to customers’ properties.
“We would like to apologise to customers who have experienced low pressure or loss of water supply this morning. Our team on site is working hard to carry out the repair and restore normal service as soon as possible.”
Water is being feed into the mains supply in order to minimise disruption to homes in Boat of Garten.
The main was only isolated within the past hour, as Scottish Water worker focused on making arrangements to keep the village itself in supply.
Most customers affected this morning will have had lower than normal pressure rather than no water at all.
The customers who will not be kept in supply with water via tanker or storage capacity in the network are expected to be those living in rural areas between Boat of Garten and Nethy Bridge.
Bottled water is being distributed to support these customers.
