Strathspey - where the heart is!
The strath’s the top trysting place for lovers - official!
As loving couples ready themselves for Valentine’s Day on Sunday, a couple of Strathspey communities have emerged as two of most loved British destinations for celebrating the big day.
Holidaylettings.co.uk – Britain’s busiest holiday lettings website - told the Strathy on Wednesday (February 10) that recent research carried out with parent company TripAdvisor confirmed that Grantown and Boat of Garten had made the top 10.
The company’s digital specialist, Zohaib Saleem, told the Strathy: “We have recently carried out a research to reveal the top 18 UK towns and villages which have experienced a significant increase in interest (year-on-year) for the Valentine’s Day weekend and are thrilled to announce that Grantown has seen an increase of 89% in the number of enquiries from last year.
“It is the fourth most sought-after place to spend a Valentine’s day weekend.”
And in at number nine came Boat of Garten, with an increase of 53%.
“The study shows that a growing number of people are choosing to whisk their loved ones away to lesser-known destinations for Valentine’s Day.”
The table was topped by Carnforth, in England, whose station starred in the classic 1945 romance “Brief Encounter” as the trysting place of Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard.
