CARRBRIDGE: A lot of water has run under it since the village had a community council but nominations open on Monday to bring it back.

Carrbridge could see its community council restored in spring if sufficient candidates come forward from Monday.

That’s when nominations start in the one Badenoch and Strathspey are without a formal watchdog group.

Villager Stewart McNeish, who has been campaigning for months to see the restoration of the community council, told the Strathy: “Here’s hoping lots of people come forward.

“The petition raised earlier this year got a good response and it looks as ifthe village, which once had such a good community council to protect its interests, could be represented fully again.”

To stand as a community councillor, all locals need to do is self-nominate themselves by completing the online nomination paper which will be available from Monday, January 27 and must be submitted by 12 noon on Monday, February 10.

Those wishing to stand as a candidate must be:

aged 16 years and over;

a resident within the boundary of the community council area;

named in the electoral register for that community council.

Interim elections are held if a community council has fallen below half the maximum permitted membership and the notice of election will be published here with further guidance on how to apply.

Interim elections are being held to fill vacancies for the community councils which have fallen into abeyance since the last round of elections in 2024 and to reform those that have submitted a petition to be re-established, including Carrbridge.

The notice of election and online nomination form will be published online here on Monday.
