'Supercar' drivers speeding at over 100mph on A95 in Strathspey are banned
Two supercar drivers have been banned from the roads after being caught by police speeding in convoy with a third performance car on a notorious straight on the A95 in the strath.
Dunstable-based businessman Noel Hendry (48), of High Street, Eaton Bray and Jason McBain (50), from Barclayhill, Portlethen, admitted travelling carelessly in convoy on the A95 Aviemore to Grantown road near Skye of Curr at 106mph in a 60mph zone.
Hendry was in his £200,000 McLaren, complete with personalised plate NH57MCL behind McBain's Porsche 911 on June 26, last year, when speed cops caught them overtaking another vehicle at 106mph.
Fiscal depute Emma MacEwan told Sheriff Ian Cruickshank that the road was dry and the weather was fine at the time.
She added that a third vehicle was also in convoy and that case will be heard later this year.
Hendry's defence solicitor advocate Neil Wilson said that his client ran a company refurbishing hospital laboratories but 'his business practically ground to a halt during Covid'.
She told the court: "He is building it up again.Through a momentary act of foolishness, he now faces losing his licence. He knows he should have thought about that before putting his foot down."
Offshore worker McBain's lawyer, Rory Gowans said: "This was a moment of madness. The Porsche is now sold and he drives something more modest."
The solicitors' said that given the cars they were driving, their clients were in the position to pay a financial penalty within 28 days.
Sheriff Cruickshank fined both men £1,675 and disqualified them from driving for six months.
He said: "No-one anywhere on the A95 should be travelling at 106mph. It is totally unacceptable."
