'Take that, Ludwig!' says Aviemore

Aviemore's Parkrun team have 'run' their bit for Sport Relief this week – successfully taking on Beethoven.

As Mairi Crawford told the Strathy: "We were fortunate to still be able to hold parkrun on Saturday.

"To lighten the mood, participants were challenged to 'beat Beethoven'.

"The Royal philharmonic orchestra had played Beethoven's fifth the night before. It lasted just over 30 mins 30 seconds.

"We played the download of that during parkrun, and the majority of participants managed to complete the 5km before the music finished.

"We are encouraging folk to keep up to date with our facebook page for updates regarding future parkruns."

Last week the evil winter weather finally did for one of the events for the first time since May 2017, even there there were still folk there wanting to take on the icy conditions.

But Saturday saw a return to form for some 49 runners, walkers and joggers to notch up event 145.

The day included 20 first timers and nine new personal bests, with representatives of 14 different clubs involved.

The event was made possible by nine trusty volunteers: Pete Wright, Mairi Crawford, Janice Cargill, Bill Dewitt, Gill Irvine, Iona Taylor, Ariana Phin, Sue Oxley and Fergus Masson.

The full results and a complete event history can be found on the Aviemore parkrun Results Page.

The female record is held by Morag Millar (17:05); male record Tom Martyn (14:57). The Age Grade course record is held by Carolyn Milne, who recorded 94.18% (20:19) on April 20, 2019 (event number 99).

Aviemore parkrun started on May 6 2017, and since then 4,400 participants have completed 9,990 parkruns covering a total distance of 49,950 km, including 1,389 new PBs. Some 190 individuals have volunteered 1,334 times.
