Nethy mourners link with Australians in memory of Inga Amesbury
Some 150 mourners gathered yesterday at Nethy Bridge Parish Church to link by Zoom with others on the far side of the world, in memory of tragic Mum Inga Amesbury.
Mrs Amesbury (45), daughter of local minister Jim and Aileen MacEwan, of Nethy Bridge, died on June 25 in Australia, where she lived with her husband Richard and sons Max and Lewis.
"It was a very good video link to the ceremony," said mourner John Kirk. "There were moving speeches from Inga's friends, her Mum and Dad in Australia.
"Her brother Andy said a few very touching words in our church here."
The gathering, all asked by the family not to wear black, moved on afterwards to Nethy Bridge Hotel for refreshments and shared memories.
It had been Inga's long-held wish to bring her sons back to Strathspey to let them see where she had grown up and in accordance with that wish, fund-raising is still taking place to help Mr Amesbury organise such a trip.
A target £30,000 Australian dollars has been set and by today there was just $3000 to go.
A family friend, Mark Dooley, is organising the appeal on behalf of Mr Amesbury.
He said: “Our beautiful friend Inga tragically passed away on Sunday, June 25 at the age of 45. We are all absolutely devastated by the sudden and unexpected passing.
“Inga was well known and loved throughout the whole community and was always first to put up her hand to help others in need. We are asking for some help from Inga’s friends to help Richard during this difficult time.
“If you couldn’t tell by her thick accent, Inga grew up in Scotland. She never got the opportunity to show the boys where she grew up, so Richard would like to take them to Scotland to see Nethy Bridge and visit all of Inga’s friends and Scottish family.
“Any donation would be greatly appreciated and will go directly to Richard to help pay for Inga’s funeral and ongoing living expenses.”
